[Movie] Peace by Chocolate

I went to the One World One Flower International Buddhist Film Festival (OIBFF) today. The movie of my choice was "Peace by Chocolate." It is a Canadian movie based on a true story of Hadhads, a Syrian refugee family who moved to Canada. Actually, the title of the movie is the name of the business that this Syrian family runs.

To tell the brief summary of the movie, a Syrian family ran a chocolate business but its factory was boomed during the civil war in Syria. The family moved to Canada as a refugee. The son (Tareq) who had the dream of becoming doctor struggle to get in to school while the father (Issam) struggle to find something to do in Canada. Not being able to speaking the language, the father could not find any jobs and the only thing he knew and can do was chocolate. Once the father went to the local chocolate shop and was trying to help the chocolatier Kelly so that she can do right and better for her chocolate. But due to language barrier, he could not communicate .

What Issam start doing was making chocolate at his own home and soon his chocolate came to be famous around the neighbor. Issam's Peace by Chocolate caught the national attention and their news spread around the country. In the meantime, Tareq's dream to become doctor did not work out well because it did not go along with the expections of responsibility for his parents and family.

You must watch the movie to see what happens after all to Issam, Tareq, and their family.

I still have to think and meditate deeply about this movie to share my after thoughts about the movie. However, it was nice seeing this movie because one of blogger I follow lives in Canada as a immigrants. I could see and experience indirectly about the culture and natural environment that this blogger explained in her daily blog. Also it was so amazing to see how friendly and nice the neighbors were. They supported Issam's family as if they were the part of the family. It is very hard to see neighborhood-ship these days. It was heart warming to see that Syrian refugee was well taken care of and loved by the new country and new neighbor.  Especially not being able to experience those kindness these days, it was very good to see and witness such kindness in the movie.

Why don't you watch this movie over the weekend with a sweet chocolate and fill your mouth and heart with sweetness?
