Dongjak Branch Leads “Net Zero” Campaign for Carbon Neutrality
In response to the growing climate crisis, Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Dongjak Branch has completed its month-long carbon neutrality campaign, “Net Zero,” drawing attention for its strong local impact and commitment to everyday environmental action.
🌍 The Urgency of Climate Action
Despite the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, where 195 countries pledged to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported in March that the Earth’s temperature has already increased by 1.55°C. Natural disasters like wildfires, floods, and droughts have become more frequent, affecting over 800,000 people globally last year.In Korea, a massive wildfire in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, was widely attributed to climate change—emphasizing the urgent need for carbon neutrality efforts.
🌱 A Month of Small Actions with Big Impact
Dongjak Branch launched the “Net Zero” campaign in March, encouraging over 100 members to adopt eco-friendly habits such as:-
Using public transportation or bicycles
-
Choosing stairs over elevators
-
Using reusable cups
-
Reducing food waste
-
Growing plants
-
Saving electricity
-
Eating more fruits and vegetables
These simple, everyday actions reflect the spirit of carbon neutrality: reducing carbon emissions and increasing carbon absorption to bring total net emissions down to zero.
The branch estimates these efforts will reduce about 50 tons of carbon emissions per year if continued consistently.
🧹 Cleaning Up the Streets, Caring for the Planet
In addition to the campaign, Dongjak members also joined the “Nature Apurja” street cleanup on March 19 near Guro Digital Complex Station, collecting 650L of trash and spreading awareness about environmental responsibility.Dongjak Branch shared that these campaigns are not just about the environment but about building hearts that care for the Earth—one action at a time.
🌿 Carbon Neutrality Starts With Us
As over 350 global companies like Google, Apple, and GM participate in campaigns like RE100 (which uses 100% renewable energy), experts agree that individual effort is just as important as national policies. The continued efforts of Dongjak Branch are expected to inspire others and position the district as a leader in responding to the climate crisis.Source: https://vo.la/BnRvce
