International Concern Grows Over South Korea's Detention of 95-Year-Old Religious Leader

The recent detention and prosecution of Chairman Lee Man-hee, the 95-year-old leader of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, has sparked intense scrutiny from international human rights and religious freedom organizations. Legal experts and sociologists worldwide are raising critical questions regarding South Korea’s adherence to global human rights standards and the principle of state neutrality. The Controversy Surrounding the Detention On June 24, 2026, South Korean authorities took Chairman Lee into custody on charges related to the Political Parties Act, followed by a formal indictment on June 30. Prosecutors allege that between July 2021 and January 2024, the church organized the enrollment of approximately 50,000 members into the ruling People Power Party (PPP) to influence internal primaries. However, the legal dispute does not center on party membership itself, but on whether coercion was involved. While prosecutors allege a forced campaign, Shincheonji Church maintains that all p...

A Day of Grace in Gongju: Chairman Man Hee Lee Shares the Hope of Revelation 21

When God comes, the world of eternal life in Revelation 21 will be fulfilled.”

These powerful words were shared by Chairman Man Hee Lee of Shincheonji Church of Jesus during a heartfelt sermon at the Gongju Church of the Matthias Tribe on May 11, 2025.

This visit was part of Chairman Lee’s ongoing journey to deliver the message of fulfilled prophecy across Korea. Following stops in Daejeon, Wonju, Masan, Jeongeup, Asan, Daegu, and Sokcho, he arrived in Gongju —a historic city that was once the capital of Baekje, one of Korea’s ancient kingdoms—with joyful greetings and an atmosphere filled with praise.

The church, known as the first Shincheonji church established by young believers, welcomed over 1,000 attendees, including pastors, press, and members of the public. The street was lined with flowers and decorations, and the worship service was filled with music, applause, and heartfelt prayers.

The Message: Fulfillment of the Bible’s Promises

Chairman Lee passionately proclaimed that the promises of the Bible are being fulfilled in our time—especially the book of Revelation.

“God never lies. Revelation 21 tells us that when God comes, He brings the holy city, New Jerusalem. That is when death, sorrow, and pain will be no more, and eternal life will begin.”

He emphasized that true believers must not only say they believe in God and Jesus but must also believe in their promises and keep them through action.

Chairman Lee also challenged the audience to reflect on their faith:

“Who am I according to the Bible? Was I born of God’s seed? Have I been harvested? Have I been sealed? Am I registered in the 12 tribes of the new kingdom?”

He pointed out that although Revelation was written nearly 2,000 years ago, its true meaning had remained hidden—until now.

Shincheonji: The Fulfillment of Prophecy

According to Chairman Lee, Shincheonji is the kingdom created exactly as promised in Revelation:

“Shincheonji has been created according to Revelation 7 and 14. We were harvested, sealed, and born of God's seed. We’ve seen and heard the fulfillment of Revelation 1 to 22 and now testify to the world.”

He made it clear that just like in Jesus' first coming, when He fulfilled the Old Testament, He has now returned spiritually to fulfill the New Testament through Revelation. Just as Jesus was misunderstood and persecuted in His time, so too is Shincheonji facing opposition today.

“Jesus was called a heretic in His time, and today, some pastors oppose Shincheonji without knowing the truth of Revelation. But that cannot stop the work of God.”

A Living Testimony

Those who attended the service felt deeply moved.
Ms. Lee (34) shared, “I was overwhelmed with joy to see the Chairman in person again. His passionate voice reminded me of Noah's days. I hope more people come to the light of Revelation before the time of judgment.”

Mr. Kim (26) added, “I usually watch the sermons online, but hearing the message in person gave me strength and hope. I truly felt the presence of the Holy Spirit.”

A local pastor who joined the service also confessed, “I feel blessed to have encountered Shincheonji’s teaching. I will do my best to become part of the 12 tribes.”

A Church Built on Faith and Growth

The Gongju Church was established in 2005 and has grown over 2,100% in the past 20 years. It continues to shine its light through volunteer work, environmental clean-up projects, Bible seminars, and open house events.

Chairman Lee’s visit to Gongju was not just a ceremony—it was a living testimony that the word of God is being fulfilled today. As Revelation 21 says, a new heaven and new earth are being created. This message of life, peace, and truth is now being proclaimed across the world.
