"Running Together, Living Together": Shincheonji Couple Found the True Meaning of Partnership on the Football Pitch

In celebration of "Married Couples' Day" in South Korea (May 21st), a unique love story from the Matthias Tribe Daejeon Church of Shincheonji is shedding light on what it truly means to walk through life as a team. For this particular husband and wife, the secrets to a harmonious marriage weren't found in a textbook, but rather on the football pitch and through their shared spiritual journey. A Match Made on the Pitch The couple's story began where they both feel most at home: the football field. The husband (referred to as A), a former professional football player in Thailand, returned to South Korea for injury treatment and tryouts. It was at a local football gathering in Daejeon that he met his future wife (B). While B had been practicing her faith at the Shincheonji Daejeon Church since 2006, A naturally joined her in 2015 after learning the Bible's teachings. For both, the Word-centered faith—which strictly emphasizes love and harmony—became the bedrock ...

A Joyful Day of Openness and Worship: Shincheonji Busan Church Holds Open House

Over 3,500 visitors gathered for a vibrant day of experience, learning, and heartfelt worship at Shincheonji Busan Church.

On June 15, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Busan James Tribe, opened its doors wide for a special Open House and Worship Service. Held at the church’s Saha District location, this year’s theme was “Today, Meet Heaven”, and the response from the local community was overwhelming—with over 3,500 people in attendance.

A Place to Discover, Learn, and Connect

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors explored every corner of the church, which was fully opened from the basement to the third floor. The first-floor welcome zone featured a guided exhibit explaining the history of Shincheonji, MOU agreements for Bible exchange, and graduation ceremonies from Zion Christian Mission Center.

Guests could also enjoy the lively photo zone—perfect for capturing memories with friends and family who came along.

Creative and Interactive Booths for Everyone

This year’s event offered even more hands-on experiences.
In the basement:

  • Bible history games

  • Succulent planting

  • Aroma crafting

  • Fabric art workshops

On the second floor:

  • Caricature drawings

  • Calligraphy

  • DIY goodie-making booths

And on the third floor, a delicious food market welcomed everyone with handmade kimbap, fruit, rice cakes, and sandwiches.

Visitors of all ages found something enjoyable to do and many shared smiles and laughter throughout the day.

A Worship Service That Touched Hearts

One of the highlights was the open worship service at 11:30 a.m. It began with a graceful dance performance and passionate praise songs such as “May You Be Blessed”, “Hearts Gathered in Love”, and “Let Your Mercy Flow”.

Then came a special sermon by Tribe Leader Lee Young-no, who delivered a message full of insight and care.

He spoke about the importance of soul-care in today’s fast-paced world, saying,

“Even people with fame and money are not free from depression and anxiety. That’s why we must seek a life that nurtures not just our bodies, but our hearts and souls.”

He added,

“Like a broken phone needs to go to a service center, our souls need to return to the One who made them—God. When the soul is filled with light and truth, everything else begins to work out too.”

His message encouraged attendees to see faith not just as religion, but as the key to true inner peace.

Changing Perceptions Through Experience

Many first-time visitors shared their surprise and joy.

Mr. Park (70s, Yeongdo District) shared:

“I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the sincerity of the invitation moved me. I was surprised by the size of the church and how easy the sermon was to understand. I’ll be starting Bible study in July.”

Another visitor, Mr. Kim (60s, Oncheon-dong), came to see the church his son attends:

“The performances were great, and the sermon was very clear. I also noticed that there are many young people here, and the atmosphere is brighter than I expected. This place is different from what people usually say—it’s much better.”

A Message of Harmony and Understanding

A representative from Shincheonji Busan Church reflected:

“At first, many visitors had misunderstandings or felt hesitant. But after experiencing our Open House, their hearts opened. We will continue to create more opportunities like this to build understanding and unity with our neighbors.”
