NHE Wind Orchestra Shines with Top Prize at Korea’s Prestigious Band Competition

Proving Excellence on Their First Official Stage

The NHE Wind Orchestra of Shincheonji Church of Jesus has achieved a remarkable milestone, winning the Grand Prize in the General Division at the 49th Korea Wind Music Competition. This marks the ensemble’s very first official external performance—yet their debut already showcased their musical potential to the nation.

The competition, hosted by the Korea Band Association and organized by the Yeoju Sejong Foundation for Culture and Tourism, ran from August 14 to 17 at the Yeoju Sejong National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts. As Korea’s most prestigious wind music event since its founding in 1976, it drew 2,500 participants from 50 teams across the country.

A Performance that Won Over the Judges

On August 15, the NHE Wind Orchestra performed in the “Special/General Division,” presenting two pieces:

  • Alte Kameraden (Alte Kameraden March)

  • Persis (concert overture)

With the stately resonance of a classic march and the dramatic sweep of a modern overture, the orchestra delivered precise ensemble balance and expressive interpretation. Their performance earned high praise for its energy, clarity, and artistry.

Dedication Behind the Success
The achievement reflects months of consistent effort. Since March, 60 members have gathered for weekly Saturday rehearsals, supplemented by five intensive training camps. This commitment to practice and teamwork culminated in the orchestra’s first competition win.

Orchestra Director Park Sang-gun expressed pride:

“Even though it was our debut competition, the members performed at an impressively high level. This result is only the beginning—we will continue growing to stand on the world stage as well.”

Music as a Cultural Bridge

Composed of woodwinds, brass, and percussion, the NHE Wind Orchestra conveys “Heavenly Culture” through the grand and vibrant sound unique to wind ensembles. Following this award, the orchestra plans to expand its performances both domestically and internationally, aiming to touch wider audiences with its powerful message through music.

This historic win demonstrates not only artistic excellence but also the possibility of faith-inspired culture contributing to society’s rich musical landscape
