Shincheonji Gwangyang Church Opens Its Doors with Community Seminar

Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, Gwangyang Church of the Peter Tribe (led by Pastor Cho Eun-guk), hosted its third Open Seminar of the year under the theme “Shincheonji That Gives Without Holding Back.” The event was designed to provide local residents with an inside look at church life, community service, and cultural activities.

Welcoming the Community In

More than 170 citizens, ranging in age from their 20s to their 80s, attended the seminar, eager to experience the church firsthand. Many expressed that they wanted to see for themselves what Shincheonji was really like, beyond what they had heard online or through media.

One visitor, Mr. Kim Hee-jin (53, Mokpo), explained:

“There are so many things said about Shincheonji on TV and online. I came today with a friend because I wanted to see and judge for myself through direct experience.”

Showcasing Service and Education

On the second floor of the church’s exhibition hall, guided tours highlighted Shincheonji’s extensive community contributions. Displays included:

• Shincheonji Volunteer Group initiatives such as caring for marginalized neighbors, environmental clean-ups, and donation campaigns.

• We Are One Youth Volunteer Group projects like We Are Run marathon events and the nationwide We Are Red blood donation campaign.

• Multimedia exhibits featuring the Zion Christian Mission Center’s 100,000 graduation ceremony, which left visitors impressed by the scale and organization.

Visitors commented with surprise:

“The range of volunteer work is broader than I expected.”
“Seeing the graduation ceremony photos and videos in person, it was far larger and more impactful than I imagined.”

A Festival Atmosphere with Music and Games

On the third floor, the mood shifted to entertainment. Attendees enjoyed live performances, recreational games, and a lively talent show where participants competed for prizes.

The karaoke-style singing contest, judged by machine scores, drew constant applause and laughter. In a heartwarming moment, a local resident, Mr. Park (70s, Suncheon), spontaneously performed a harmonica piece.

“I wanted to give back because everyone was having such a good time,” he said. “Through this event, I felt the church’s bright and warm atmosphere. The members seemed kind and welcoming.” 

Building Bridges Through Openness

Pastor Cho Eun-guk emphasized the church’s vision of transparency and community connection:

“This seminar was prepared so local residents could directly see and experience Shincheonji for themselves, and clear up any questions. We will continue to hold open seminars and operate our promotion hall so that everyone feels welcome to visit.”

The Open Seminar at Shincheonji Gwangyang Church showcased not only the church’s faith-based activities but also its cultural warmth and dedication to community service. By welcoming local residents into its space, the church hopes to build greater understanding and stronger ties with the people of Gwangyang.
