We Are One Youth: 341 Join Summer Blood Donation in Seoul–Gyeonggi East
On September 6, the youth volunteer group We Are One, affiliated with Shincheonji Church of Jesus, held a blood donation campaign at the Seoul Eastern Blood Center. Despite the rainy weather, 81 volunteers donated blood that day, bringing the total number of donations from the Seoul–Gyeonggi East Regional Association to 341 since July 27.
Overcoming Shortages with Youth Commitment
According to the Seoul Eastern Blood Center, among 15 religious organizations in the region, the We Are Red campaign by We Are One recorded the second-highest number of donors, with 211 participants to date. Their consistent involvement has provided vital support during Korea’s ongoing blood supply crisis.
Tribe Leader Yoo Young-bin of the Seoul James Tribe reflected on his own experience:
“I first donated blood during my military service, and this campaign marks my 39th donation. Blood donation is not something to fear but a chance to share love and bring warmth to the world. Just as the blood of Jesus brought spiritual life, I hope the blood of our youth brings life and love to our neighbors.”
Voices of Hope from Donors
-
Do Hyun-yi (50, Jungnang-gu): “I used to be weak, but consistent donations helped me regain my health. I’m grateful knowing my blood helps someone else.”
-
Lee Ae-ri (30): “Through this campaign I learned that donating blood saves lives, and that’s why I continue to participate actively.”
-
Kim Na-hee (25, Guri): “At first I donated for the small gifts, but after watching my mother undergo surgery and transfusions, I realized how precious blood is. The fear disappears when you know it can save a life.”
-
Chae Yu-ri (32, Jungnang-gu): “I began donating during COVID-19, when the value of life felt more urgent. Because it’s voluntary, it means even more, and the power of sharing grows when we do it together.”
The Need for Ongoing Participation
Lee Cheol-su, from the Blood Donation Support Team, explained:
“For stable supply, Korea needs 5,000–6,000 donors daily, but we’re falling short. Especially with platelets, which last only 96 hours, active participation is crucial. Blood donation is the most certain and warm way to save a life.”
He expressed gratitude to the We Are Red campaign for leading the way in spreading the culture of blood donation.
Nationwide Campaign
The 2025 We Are Red second-half campaign runs until October 18 with a nationwide goal of 10,000 participants. Beyond blood donation, We Are One continues to serve society through environmental clean-ups, disaster relief, and other initiatives, spreading values of life and care across communities.
