Everyday Kindness in Action: Shincheonji Volunteer Group Brings Warmth to Communities Across the Seoul Metropolitan Area

Serving with Heart, Right Where It’s Needed 💚

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group is quietly spreading warmth across Seoul and Gyeonggi Province through small but meaningful acts of service that make daily life a little brighter.

From Seongdong and Gangdong in Seoul to Seongnam and Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi, each local branch is carrying out customized volunteer programs that fit the needs of their own communities — turning the idea of “love your neighbor” into real, everyday action.

Cleaning Drains, Preventing Floods — Seongdong Branch

On October 18, the Seongdong Branch (led by Director Shim Hyun-bo) launched a drain-cleaning campaign in Seongsu-dong to prevent flooding in low-lying areas during the autumn rains.

Volunteers lifted manhole covers, removed fallen leaves and debris, and cleaned water passages to ensure smooth drainage.

Since 2018, Seongdong volunteers have been running their monthly “Let Nature Be Green” environmental campaign every third Saturday.
They also plan to continue year-end efforts to help the community prepare for heavy snow and cold weather.

Supporting Disability Rehabilitation Centers — Seongnam Branch

On October 23, the Seongnam Branch (Director Jin Man-gi) visited a vocational rehabilitation center for people with disabilities to provide hands-on assistance with daily tasks.

Since the pandemic, many such facilities have faced staff shortages — so volunteers joined in to help with assembling stationery, crafts, and household goods, working side by side with the center’s members.

This activity is part of their ongoing “Little Finger” program, which helps bridge the gap between people with and without disabilities through regular, heartwarming interaction.

Autumn Cleanup and “Conscious Smoking” Campaign — Pyeongtaek Branch

The Pyeongtaek Branch (Director Lee Cheol-woo) also rolled up their sleeves on October 23 for an autumn cleanup around the Godeok Industrial Complex.
Volunteers collected about 225 liters of litter, including cigarette butts and fallen leaves, from nearby roads and parks.

They also led a campaign promoting better public manners among smokers, under the theme “A Declaration of Conscience for Respectful Smokers.”
The double effort — cleaning and awareness — drew positive responses from local residents and workers alike.

Weeding for Safer Walkways — Gangdong Branch

On October 27, the Gangdong Branch (Director Kim Jae-guk) carried out a sidewalk weeding activity around Gil-dong Station.
Volunteers manually removed weeds along a one-kilometer stretch between Gildong Intersection and Cheondong Elementary School, creating a clean, pleasant, and safer walkway for pedestrians.

Passersby praised their dedication, saying that even small actions like this make a big difference in the quality of city life.

“Volunteering Should Be Part of Everyday Life”

A representative from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group shared,

“Volunteering isn’t about grand gestures — it’s about small acts that blend naturally into daily life.
We’ll continue to grow together with our local communities through service that reflects each region’s needs.”

Building a Culture of Everyday Love

Through tailored service — from environmental cleanups to inclusive care and civic campaigns — the Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to build a culture of practical kindness.
Each project may look small, but together, they form a powerful message: peace and harmony begin with caring for one another right where we live. 🌿
