Practical Support for Seniors During the Winter Cold
On January 12, 2026, the Seoul East Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group visited Peace House in Junggye-bondong, Nowon District, Seoul, to provide grooming services and winter care items for senior residents.
The volunteers delivered 20 sets of vest-style knee blankets, designed for everyday winter use, while also offering haircuts and personal care. By combining physical support with emotional interaction, the activity aimed to bring both warmth and comfort during the cold season.
Grooming Services and Emotional Connection
Professional grooming volunteers and young adult volunteers worked together to help seniors with haircuts and styling. Beyond the service itself, the visit became a time for conversation and shared laughter.
One senior participant shared that the visit brought joy and reminded them of an important day in their life. Another expressed appreciation for the volunteers’ regular visits, noting that consistency helped them feel reassured and cared for.
Volunteers also emphasized that even short visits can have a meaningful impact when they are carried out consistently and with care.
Winter Items Chosen for Everyday Use
The vest-style knee blankets were selected specifically for their practicality during winter. Seniors described them as both warm and useful for daily life, highlighting the importance of providing items that can be immediately used rather than symbolic gifts.
The Seoul East Branch explained that its activities focus on real, everyday needs, especially for older adults who face increased challenges during winter.
Supporting Public Safety During Severe Weather
In addition to senior care, the Seoul East Branch also carried out snow-removal volunteer work on January 13, despite freezing temperatures, heavy snowfall, and a city bus strike that affected transportation.
Volunteers cleared snow and ice from sidewalks and key pedestrian routes near the church and surrounding areas to help prevent accidents and ensure safer movement for local residents.
Continuing Year-Round Community Care
The Seoul East Branch plans to continue a range of regular volunteer activities, including side-dish sharing, grooming services, community storytelling projects, and seasonal support for seniors.
Through steady engagement—whether inside care facilities or on icy streets—the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Seoul East Branch continues to practice community-centered volunteering that responds to real needs at the right time.
