International Concern Grows Over South Korea's Detention of 95-Year-Old Religious Leader

The recent detention and prosecution of Chairman Lee Man-hee, the 95-year-old leader of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, has sparked intense scrutiny from international human rights and religious freedom organizations. Legal experts and sociologists worldwide are raising critical questions regarding South Korea’s adherence to global human rights standards and the principle of state neutrality. The Controversy Surrounding the Detention On June 24, 2026, South Korean authorities took Chairman Lee into custody on charges related to the Political Parties Act, followed by a formal indictment on June 30. Prosecutors allege that between July 2021 and January 2024, the church organized the enrollment of approximately 50,000 members into the ruling People Power Party (PPP) to influence internal primaries. 1,600 Gather in Busan for Shincheonji Bible Seminar, Signaling a Shift in Regional Religious Landscapes

A Surge of Interest in the "Revealed Word"

On April 4, 2026, the Busan Andre Training Center became a focal point for religious discourse as the "2026 Shincheonji Bible Seminar" concluded with significant impact. Approximately 1,600 participants, including over 100 pastors, convened to witness the lecture titled "The Secrets of the Book of Revelation That Every Believer Seeking Heaven Must Know."

Evidence of Change: 1,000 Pastors and 78,000 Believers

According to recent reports, the Busan and Gyeongnam regions have seen a remarkable increase in theological engagement since the pandemic. Over the past few years, 15 Bible seminars and 39 open houses have attracted a cumulative total of 78,000 believers and more than 1,000 pastors. This trend suggests a growing openness toward Shincheonji’s teachings within the established religious community.

The Standard of Faith: The Scriptures

During his keynote address, Chairman Lee Man-hee emphasized that the Bible must remain the absolute standard of faith.

"To believe without knowing what one believes is not true faith," Chairman Lee stated. "It is crucial to understand the precise meaning and the physical realities of the prophecies in Revelation. Adding to or subtracting from these words forfeits one’s entry into the Kingdom of Heaven."

Ministerial Exchange in the AI Era

The seminar transcended a simple lecture by hosting a specialized session on "Ministerial Sharing and Exchange." Participants discussed practical applications of the Word in the AI era and explored possibilities for inter-denominational cooperation, moving beyond traditional sectarian boundaries.

  1. A beautiful seminar! According to Revelation chapter 22 verses 8 and 16, there is one messenger, chosen by Jesus, who is shown the fulfilled realities of the Book of Revelation and is sent to testify that fulfilled reality to the churches. If Chairman Lee isn’t actually the fulfilled reality of that promise, then please show me who is, according to the scriptures.
