"Inoculating" the Forest: How Shincheonji Volunteers are Combating Wildfires with a Creative Twist

The April Hazard: Dry Winds and the Threat of Flame

As spring arrives in Korea, so do the dry winds that turn our beautiful mountains into tinderboxes. April is historically the most dangerous month for wildfires, with statistics showing a sharp rise in incidents due to parched conditions. This year is no exception, and the authorities are on high alert. Recognizing this critical window, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Donghae Branch) took to the historic Mureung Valley on April 11 to launch a wildfire prevention campaign that was anything but ordinary.

The Secret Weapon: A "Wildfire Vaccination"

We all know the importance of vaccinations for personal health. But can you vaccinate a forest? The Donghae Branch proved you can—at least symbolically!

Under the leadership of Branch Head Park Chan-yong, the volunteers introduced a unique, interactive concept: the "Wildfire Prevention Vaccination." This wasn't your typical safety lecture. It was a lively, engaging performance designed to leave a lasting impression.

Doctor Volunteers and Giant Syringes: A Prescription for Safety

The highlight of the day was the "Syringe Performance." Volunteers dressed in doctor's white coats roam the Mureung Valley plaza, carrying large, prop syringes. Their diagnosis? A severe need for "wildfire awareness."

They approached hikers and tourists, playfully administering a "vaccination" against negligence. The message was clear: Just as a vaccine protects you from disease, simple precautions protect the forest from fire.

Spreading Joy and Essential Gear

The "inoculation" was just the beginning. Once "vaccinated," participants received:

  • Prevention Stickers: A badge of honor signifying their commitment to forest safety.

  • Essential Supplies: Bottled water and safety management items were distributed, turning the campaign into a practical outreach event.

Rave Reviews from Hikers and Officials

The unusual approach was a massive hit. Kim Tae-ho (65), a tourist from Gwangju, shared, "Wildfire campaigns can be stiff, but this 'vaccination' performance was so much fun. It made the message stick, and I had a great time."

An official from the Donghae City Volunteer Center also praised the initiative: "This strategic approach, using a standout performance, effectively drew citizen attention and will significantly improve public awareness of wildfire prevention."

Protecting Our Vital Heritage

Wildfires can devastate a landscape in moments, but recovery takes decades. As Park Chan-yong emphasized, one moment of negligence can have long-lasting consequences. By combining safety education with joy and creativity, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group is not just cleaning up; they are fostering a new culture of active stewardship, one "vaccination" at a time. They plan to continue these citizen-participatory campaigns to protect Korea's precious natural heritage.
