Beyond Memory: Connecting Generations Through Heartfelt Care for War Veterans

Honoring Heroes with More Than Just Words

Gratitude is most powerful when it is felt. Recently, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group branches in Namsan (Seoul) and Jecheon proved this by organizing heartfelt "Veterans’ Day" activities. Rather than one-time events, these were deep, personal encounters designed to honor the sacrifice of those who fought for the freedom Korea enjoys today.

Namsan: A Warm Meal Prepared with Sincerity

In Yongsan, Seoul, the Namsan branch hosted a "Monthly Luncheon" for 6.25 War veterans and their descendants.

  • Cooking with Love: 15 volunteers arrived early to personally prepare a nutritious meal. This wasn't just catering; it was a gesture of "sincerity" that moved the local veteran association members.

  • Living History: The highlight was the participation of youth volunteers. By listening to the first-hand accounts of the war, the younger generation realized that their daily peace is a gift from these heroes. "I learned about the war from people, not books," shared one young volunteer.

Jecheon: A "Companion" for Daily Vitality

The Jecheon branch conducted its monthly "Companion (Dong-haeng)" program, focusing on the physical and emotional well-being of veterans at the local Veterans' Hall.

  • Beauty and Care: Professional volunteers provided hair-styling services, giving the veterans a renewed sense of dignity and freshness.

  • Cognitive Wellness: Volunteers and veterans sat together to craft "Back-scratchers (Hyo-ja-son)." This creative activity wasn't just for fun—it was designed to improve cognitive health and provide a sense of achievement for the elderly.

  • Family-like Bond: "They visit us every month without fail," one member noted, highlighting the consistent, family-like relationship built over time.

Passing the Torch: Veterans to Descendants

A common theme in both locations was the expansion of the "Bo-hun" (Patriotism/Veterans Affairs) culture. We are seeing more descendants join these events, ensuring that the legacy of sacrifice is passed down to the next generation.

The Power of Consistency

Whether it’s a warm bowl of soup in Seoul or a handmade craft in Jecheon, the message remains the same: We will never forget. The Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to find practical, emotional, and sincere ways to ensure our veterans live their senior years with the honor and joy they deserve.
