In a fast-paced world driven by dual-income households and shifting social structures, maintaining a healthy marriage has become a complex challenge. A survey by data firm PMI reveals that over 10% of adults rarely or never communicate with their families, with many viewing family gatherings as financial or psychological burdens rather than sources of warmth.
To ease these modern pressures, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus is actively providing practical sanctuaries where couples can step away from daily distractions and focus entirely on restoring their bonds.
Gwacheon Church (John Tribe): A Sanctuary for the 3040 Generation
The "3040 generation" serves as the vital backbone of both the workforce and the home, yet they are often the most vulnerable to emotional neglect as they balance career growth, intense childcare, and faith.
To support these young households, the Gwacheon Church of the John Tribe hosted a customized "3040 Spiritual Talk Concert". Moving away from rigid, one-way lectures, the event adopted an interactive Q&A format based on real-life stories submitted by 35 participating couples. Attendees openly discussed sensitive dilemmas, including the challenges of childbirth and building a healthy, faith-centered home.
The church’s lead pastor, Sun Chang-ho, emphasized "love and mutual consideration" as the ultimate keys to resolving marital friction, sharing practical personal anecdotes. Coupled with live musical performances and a session for writing heartfelt letters, the event gave partners a much-needed emotional reset.
"I always thought I was accommodating, but this dialogue made me realize I was a husband who only expected to be served," shared Kim Sung-woong (37, alias). "Sharing experiences with peers facing the same struggles helped me see the root causes of our conflicts. I intend to embody love within my home moving forward."
Bartholomew Tribe: Cultivating Connection from the Bedrock
The Bartholomew Tribe operates under a similar philosophy: the health of a community begins with a resilient marriage. Since 2017, the tribe has consistently hosted "Married Couples' Day" programs designed to guide busy partners through conflict resolution and emotional expression with the help of communication experts.
For younger participants, these practical activities offered immediate relief. Go Yu-jin (29) shared, "We often clashed over parenting styles, but exchanging letters allowed us to feel each other’s unspoken sincerity." Another participant, Seo Hyung-il (31), added, "Due to different work schedules, we felt more like roommates. This event brought back the focus and romance of our early dating days."
The Essential Role of the Modern Church
As family structures experience modern strains, providing tailored, continuous cultural programs ensures that healthy marriages remain the foundation of a resilient local society. By absorbing the emotional burdens of modern life, Shincheonji is helping young couples rediscover that gratitude, rather than comparison, is the true source of family happiness.
