A Bowl of Honor: Shincheonji Icheon Volunteers Nourished 10 Local War Heroes

Shincheonji Volunteer Group Icheon Branch Served Homemade Samgyetang and Heatwave Relief Kits to Korean War Veterans in Mid-August

"Preparing a hot, nourishing meal for those who protected our country wasn't just a service—it was our duty of gratitude."

— Lee Kyeong-hee, Volunteer at Shincheonji Volunteer Group Icheon Branch

In the sweltering heat of late August, staying healthy and hydrated is a major challenge, especially for aging Korean War veterans.

On August 21, the office of the 6·25 Korean War Veterans Association in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, was filled with the rich, comforting aroma of freshly simmered ginseng chicken soup (Samgyetang).

Volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Icheon Branch gathered to host a heartwarming luncheon for 10 local war veterans, blending heartfelt hospitality with essential heatwave care.

Homemade Nutrition Delivered with Deep Respect

Rather than ordering pre-packaged meals, volunteers personally prepared nutritious Samgyetang from scratch—a classic Korean summer delicacy designed to restore energy and stamina during peak heatwaves.

  • Warm Table Services: Volunteers served the hot soup directly to the 10 invited veterans, sitting beside them to listen to their historic war memories and check on their daily health.

  • Emotional Connection: The meal served as a comfortable space where aging heroes felt truly seen, heard, and appreciated by the younger generation.

Practical Heatwave Safety Kits for Daily Protection

Elderly citizens are particularly vulnerable to extreme summer temperatures and heat exhaustion. To ensure the veterans stay safe long after the meal ended, the Icheon Branch prepared customized Heatwave Prevention Kits:

  • Cooling Support: Each kit contained specialized cooling patches, wet wipes, and bottled water (330ml) for quick hydration on the go.

  • Safety Guidelines: Volunteers walked the veterans through a simple heatwave safety guide, offering practical tips on preventing heat-related illnesses during humid days.

Continuing the Legacy of Gratitude

A community's true strength lies in how faithfully it honors those who defended its peace.

As an official from the Icheon Branch emphasized:

"We arranged this gathering to honor the noble sacrifices of our 6·25 veterans and safeguard their health during this intense heatwave. We will continue running diverse volunteer programs so that our community's gratitude toward national heroes never fades."

The Icheon Branch plans to extend its tailored support campaigns to more national veterans and vulnerable neighbors throughout the region.
