Breathing New Life into Memories: Shincheonji Volunteers Transformed an Incheon Veterans’ Office

Shincheonji Volunteer Group West Incheon Branch Installed Air Purifiers, Restored 40+ Historic Photos, and Gifted AI-Enhanced Wartime Portraits to Marine Corps Veterans

Near the bustling docks of Yeonan Pier in Jemuplpo-gu, Incheon, stands a quiet headquarters where national veterans gather: the Marine Sea Saving Movement.

For years, these Marine veterans dedicated their lives to protecting the nation's waters. However, amid intense midsummer heatwaves, their aging office space had become humid and dusty, with years of community service photos left unsorted on worn bulletin boards.

On August 21, volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group West Incheon Branch stepped inside with a mission—not just to clean, but to completely revitalize the space where these national heroes meet.


A Breath of Fresh Air: Combating the Summer Heatwave

The summer humidity along the coastline can be brutal for elderly veterans. To create a healthier environment, volunteers brought essential home appliances supported by donors:

  • Climate Control & Air Purification: Volunteers installed new air purifiers and dehumidifiers, clearing out stale air and dampness.

  • Deep Cleaning Services: Every corner of the office was swept, dusted, and sanitized, creating a fresh, comfortable indoor refuge.

Choi Seung-eon, Vice Branch Manager of the West Incheon Branch, noted: "We prepared this initiative so that our national heroes can utilize their office in comfort. We hope these air purifiers and dehumidifiers offer real relief during these scorching summer days."

40 Photographs and AI Magic: Restoring Decades of Dedication

The most moving part of the transformation was restoring the office’s visual history.

For years, the organization’s activity photos had remained unsorted. Volunteers carefully curated and mounted over 40 photographs onto a newly redesigned bulletin board, creating a vibrant timeline of the Marines' environmental and community achievements.

Volunteers also brought a touch of modern technology to honor Lee Deok-hee, President of the Marine Sea Saving Movement:

AI-Restored Military Memories: Using AI technology, volunteers digitally restored and framed President Lee’s cherished, faded wartime military photographs, presenting them as a surprise gift.


 Art, Conversation, and Shared Tea

Beyond physical repairs, the day turned into an intergenerational celebration:

  • Custom Art Crafting: Veterans and volunteers sat together to paint personalized designs on traditional handheld fans and handkerchiefs.

  • Teatime & Storytelling: Over fresh fruits and snacks, young volunteers listened to the veterans recount their historic service memories and lifelong dedication to marine conservation.

President Lee Deok-hee shared his heartfelt appreciation:
