"Sharing Heavenly Light and Rain": Shincheonji Church and the Busoga Kingdom Brought Free Healthcare to Over 1,000 Ugandan Residents

Access to basic, quality healthcare remains one of the most critical challenges facing rural communities in East Africa. Long traveling distances to clinics and the exorbitant cost of medical treatment often prevent vulnerable families from receiving timely diagnoses and essential care.

Addressing these systemic barriers through direct action, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, in official partnership with the Busoga Kingdom, hosted a mega health camp on July 18, 2026, at Muterere Health Centre III in the Bugiri District of Uganda.

Organized under a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the church and the kingdom, the joint outreach brought essential, free medical services directly to more than 1,000 local residents.


Comprehensive Medical Support and Community Screenings

The initiative mobilized a dedicated team of doctors, specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and medical volunteers. Together, they transformed the local health center into a vibrant hub of care, offering a wide array of free services, including:

  • Medical Consultations & Diagnosis: Professional check-ups and tailored treatments for prevalent local conditions.

  • Pharmaceutical Care: Free distribution of prescribed medications to patients who otherwise could not afford them.

  • Early Disease Screenings: Preventive health evaluations designed to detect chronic conditions early and improve long-term community health outcomes.

  • Vision Care: Free prescription eyeglasses provided to 150 individuals, instantly restoring their quality of life and independence.

Martha Nambooza, Secretary for Social Services in the Bugiri District, expressed deep gratitude for the partnership, noting that high healthcare costs and remote geography heavily restrict local residents' access to medical treatment. She commended Shincheonji and the Busoga Kingdom for bringing specialized medical care directly to the people's doorstep.


The Philosophy of Unconditional Service: Heavenly Light, Rain, and Air

At the heart of this massive humanitarian effort is a spiritual philosophy inspired by the teachings of Chairman Man Hee Lee: unconditional love modeled after the natural world.

An instructor from the Shincheonji Church of Jesus shared the foundational motivation behind their global outreach:

"We strive to share a heavenly culture with the world—just as the heavens provide light, rain, and air unconditionally and without cost to all creation. Having received countless blessings from the physical world, it is our duty and privilege to give back to humanity through unconditional service."

 

A Sustainable Blueprint for Community Well-being

Medical professionals at the camp emphasized that preventive health education and regular screenings are the most effective tools to reduce mortality in underserved regions. By establishing structural partnerships with traditional local authorities like the Busoga Kingdom, Shincheonji is proving that religious organization-led humanitarian efforts can create long-lasting, tangible benefits for civil society.

As the successful Bugiri District health camp demonstrates, when faith-based organizations and local governments unite around the shared value of human dignity, barriers are broken—bringing hope, health, and light to those who need it most.
