Spreading Chuseok Warmth Across South Korea: Shincheonji Volunteer Group Honors Veterans and Supports Local Neighbors in Daejeon, Gunsan, and Mokpo

As South Korea prepares for Chuseok—the nation's mid-autumn harvest festival dedicated to family, reflection, and gratitude—the Shincheonji Volunteer Group engaged in heartfelt community outreach across the country.

From cleaning national cemetery gravesites to delivering home-cooked holiday meals and comforting traditional market vendors, branches in Daejeon, Gunsan, and Mokpo demonstrated how faith translates into practical love and patriotism.

Daejeon: Honoring 2,000 Fallen Heroes at National Cemetery

On September 17, 33 volunteers—including 13 young adults—from the Daejeon Branch gathered at the Daejeon National Cemetery under the theme "Hero Stories: Let’s Remember Our Heroes!"

Over two dedicated hours, volunteers carefully polished 2,000 gravestones in Soldiers' Cemetery Section 3, tidying the surrounding grounds before paying solemn respects to fallen service members.

A visiting family member from Cheonan expressed deep appreciation: "Thank you for taking care of this on behalf of families who cannot visit often. Just knowing that our heroes are not forgotten means the world to us."

Reflecting on the birth and death years engraved on the headstones, one youth volunteer shared: "I noticed many who fought in the Korean War were only 20 to 23 years old—my age when I served in the military. It made me realize that the peaceful daily life we enjoy today was built on their tremendous sacrifices."


Gunsan: Delivering Warm Home-Cooked Meals to Veterans and Seniors

On the same day, the Gunsan Branch reached out to 30 vulnerable households, including Korean War veterans, senior citizens living alone in Malaeng-i Village, and members of the Korea Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities.

Starting early in the morning, volunteers prepared fresh kimchi, beef radish soup, and traditional three-color savory pancakes (samsaek-jeon). Volunteers hand-delivered these freshly made holiday meals directly to each home, ensuring that elderly and disabled neighbors could enjoy a warm, nutritious holiday.

Branch Director Lee Han-bit noted: "We prepared these meals to offer practical support to neighbors who struggle with meal preparation during holidays. We will continue regular visits to serve our community."



 Mokpo: Bringing Festive Cheer and Cleanliness to Traditional Markets

On September 19, 46 volunteers from the Mokpo Branch visited the historic Mokpo Freedom Market to bring festive encouragement to busy local merchants.

Volunteers walked through the market, handing out "Chuseok Happiness Gift Boxes" filled with mixed nuts, traditional sweet pastries (yakgwa), hand creams, and vitamins. Following the gift distribution, volunteers conducted a thorough environmental cleanup around the market entrances and alleys, removing cigarette butts and discarded waste to ensure a clean shopping environment for holiday visitors.

A local merchant commented warmly: "Business gets so hectic before Chuseok, but having volunteers drop by with warm holiday wishes and practical gifts really brought back the human touch and festive spirit."


A Legacy of Gratitude and Loving Community Care

Across Daejeon, Gunsan, and Mokpo, Shincheonji Volunteer Group demonstrated that the true spirit of Chuseok lies in remembering past sacrifices and extending a helping hand to those around us.
