Across South Korea, local volunteer initiatives continue to brighten neighborhoods by addressing resident requests and promoting carbon neutrality.

On October 16 and 17, 2026, the Suwon Branch and Jeonju Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group launched environmental campaigns in their respective cities, clearing neglected waste from public markets, residential underpasses, and industrial districts.

Suwon Branch: Responding to Resident Requests in Buksuwon Market Area

On October 17, 2026, 33 volunteers from the Suwon Branch gathered near Buksuwon Market in Pajang-dong, cleaning areas around the Central Regional Tax Office, Samik Apartments, and FORENA Apartments:

  • Driven by Citizen Input: The cleanup was organized following requests from local residents who noticed accumulated litter along residential alleys and apartment surrounds.

  • Focusing on Hidden Spots: Volunteers cleaned roadside greenery and cleared leaves and waste from both sides of the Samik Underground Pedestrian Passage to improve daily commuting paths.

  • 125 Liters Collected: In total, volunteers gathered 125 liters of waste (75L general trash, 50L recyclables).

  • Resident Recognition: Watching the volunteers, one resident remarked, "I saw them cleaning last month as well—they consistently show up for the community." The Suwon Branch confirmed plans to continue monthly cleanups.

Jeonju Branch: Clearing 1,550 Liters in Carbon Industrial Complex

On October 16, 2026, 50 volunteers from the Jeonju Branch conducted a two-hour cleanup and carbon neutrality campaign across Yusang-ro and Biseoknal-ro in the Palbok-dong Carbon Industrial Complex (Deokjin-gu):

  • Tackling Illegal Dumping: Volunteers focused on neglected roadside waste, collecting 1,550 liters of waste (850L recyclables across 17 bags and 700L general trash across 14 bags) and sorting them on-site.

  • Promoting Carbon Neutrality: Alongside the cleanup, volunteers used banners and promotional signboards for the "Make Nature Green" campaign, raising awareness about climate change response and resource recycling among industrial workers and commuters.

  • Worker Appreciation: Kim Seong-hoon (52, alias), a worker in the industrial complex, shared: "I am grateful to see the streets cleared of leaves and litter. I hope these community activities continue."

Sustaining Community Health and Environmental Awareness

Whether answering a neighbor's request in Suwon or spreading eco-friendly practices in Jeonju's industrial hub, these monthly efforts demonstrate a practical commitment to creating cleaner, healthier living spaces together with local residents.
