When continuous dedication meets community needs, real civic transformation begins. In Malawi, South Africa, a steady commitment to environmental stewardship by Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Bartholomew Tribe (Malawi Branch), has led to a inspiring milestone in public-private cooperation.
On October 29, 2026, 51 volunteers and students from the Zion Christian Mission Center gathered in Blantyre Town for the 25th "Light and Salt Day" Environmental Cleanup Drive, collecting an impressive 1 ton of household waste along city streets.
Inspiring City Council Action: Trash Cans Installed in Blantyre
What sets this 25th cleanup drive apart is its tangible civic impact. Moved by the church volunteers' unyielding commitment over 25 consecutive campaigns, the Blantyre City Council responded by installing official public trash bins throughout Blantyre Town.
This setup transforms one-time volunteer work into a lasting municipal infrastructure improvement, encouraging everyday citizens and shoppers to keep the streets clean.
Parliamentary Support and Local Merchant Engagement in Ndirande
The initiative's momentum was previously built during the 24th cleanup drive in Ndirande, where local merchants, students, and parliamentary officials joined hands with church volunteers.
During the 24th drive, Lastseen Jonamusi, Manager of Ndirande Market under the local authority, praised the timely intervention:
"A healthy environment is vital for a healthy life," Jonamusi stated, encouraging local shopkeepers and residents to participate. "We are deeply grateful to Shincheonji Church for conducting this activity so timely, and we commit to providing cleaning tools and establishing a long-term cooperative partnership."

National Media Spotlight: MBC Broadcasting & Social Media Reach
This grassroots transformation caught the attention of nationwide media. Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), the national broadcaster, conducted on-site interviews with volunteers during the 24th and 25th drives.
Coverage of the events was broadcast on national television and circulated widely across official social media channels, including Facebook and TikTok, sparking positive conversations across Malawian society.
Expanding Local Networks for Sustainable Peace
A representative from Shincheonji Church in Malawi shared: "We will continue to build a strong cooperative foundation with local councils through ongoing environmental activities. Moving forward, we plan to actively engage with surrounding shops and pharmacies to widen our community support network."
By turning simple street cleaning into a powerful catalyst for municipal action, Shincheonji Church continues to show how faith-driven service can bring lasting, practical hope to communities around the globe.
