On August 21, the office of the 6·25 Korean War Veterans Association in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, was filled with the rich, comforting aroma of freshly simmered ginseng chicken soup ( Samgyetang ). Volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Icheon Branch gathered to host a heartwarming luncheon for 10 local war veterans, blending heartfelt hospitality with essential heatwave care. [Life] Super moon in the year 2023

Do you have an experience of feeling that the Moon is appears closer than usual? It is not just a feeling. Actually the distance between the Moon and the Earth is closer. There is a name for this -- Super Moon.

Normally, the Super Moon occurs three to four times a year. In the year 2023, the first Super Moon occured in July 3rd and the second one in August 2nd. If you missed both of them, don't be disappointed. The thrid one is coming soon -- August 31st.  This month is very special because the Super Moon occurs twice within a month. The last Super Moon is expected on September 29th. 

Full Moon is considered as prosperity in Eastern countries while Western countries see it as unlucky. Also, in Western society, second full Moon appearing in the same month is called Blue Moon. It is not because the color of the Moon is blue. It is because the second full Moon within the same month is called Moon of betrayal and since the pronounciation of an old English vocabulary 'Belewe' is same as blue, Blue Moon became the name for the second full Moon of the month.

Then you might ask why Super Moon occurs. It is because the Moon' orbit around the earth is not perfectly circle. The Moon's average distance from Earth is 382,900km The closest distance between the Moon and the earth is 363,396km and 405,504km for the farthest. The Super Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than smallest Full Moon which is called mini Moon.

The Super Moon expected to appear on August 31st is the most biggest one of the year. Scientists expect that we will not see such a big Moon until November 5th, 2025. Therefore, we better wait for August 31st and see this Super Moon!

As winter settles in and the year comes to a close, many people begin to feel the cold more deeply—especially seniors living alone, neighbors with disabilities, and those who have served the nation. To bring warmth and comfort to these communities, graduates of Zion Christian Mission Center Class 116 from both the Andre Tribe and the Peter Tribe stepped forward for a special act of love: kimchi sharing.
