Faith and Teamwork: Shincheonji's Rising Baseball Stars

In a shining example of how faith and sports can come together, the baseball team from Shincheonji Church of Jesus, known as the Winners, secured an impressive 3rd place finish in the 2nd Division of the 25th National Amateur Baseball Championship, hosted by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

A Rising Team in Amateur Baseball

The tournament was held from May 23 to 25 at Taebaek Sports Park in Gangwon Province, where amateur teams from across the nation competed fiercely. Despite tough competition, the Shincheonji team advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the previous year’s champion, the Gumi Golden Sluggers.

Though they narrowly missed the finals due to time-limited game rules, the team showcased determination and spirit—making a memorable comeback with a grand slam and finishing the game with a 12-7 score.

From Underdogs to Top Contenders

Founded in July 2021, the Shincheonji Winners team consists of 27 players and staff. With monthly training sessions and a focus on professional-level preparation, they have grown rapidly in skill and teamwork, becoming a strong presence in Korea’s amateur baseball scene.

Training, Passion, and Purpose

“We were disappointed not to reach the finals, but I’m proud of our players for giving their all,” said Coach Hwang In-geon. “We’ll keep preparing and come back even stronger for the next tournament.”

Head Coach Ahn Jun-gyeom added, “This event showed us both our potential and what we need to work on. Our goal is to win the next National Sports Association tournament later this year.”

Faith Through Sports

The athletic ministry of Shincheonji Church promotes healthy faith-based lifestyles through various sports programs. These initiatives provide not only physical development but also meaningful connections among members and positive engagement with the broader community.

From victories on the field to character built in training, Shincheonji’s youth are showing how sports can be a powerful way to live out values of perseverance, teamwork, and hope.
