UN Human Rights Council Receives Petition on Minorities in South Korea

What began as a domestic legal dispute in South Korea has officially reached the global stage. CAP LC, a prominent international human rights NGO holding special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has submitted a formal written statement to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The petition voices growing international alarm over institutional discrimination, social stigma, and the erosion of due process affecting minority groups, specifically focusing on the recent treatment of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus. The Core Appeal: Decisions Must Be Based on Evidence, Not Stigma In its official submission to the UN, CAP LC shifted the focus away from internal theological controversies, choosing instead to address a more critical systemic issue: the objective standards of administrative and judicial justice. The international NGO expressed deep concern that unverified negative perceptions originating in South Korea are being exported g...

Shincheonji Church Launches 84-Day Summer Blood Donation Campaign to Overcome Seasonal Blood Shortages

A nationwide effort to save lives during Korea’s most critical blood supply season

As Korea enters the summer vacation and holiday season, the country’s blood reserves are once again under pressure. In response, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony has announced a large-scale “Life-Sharing Blood Donation Campaign” to support the national blood supply from July 27 to October 18 — a total of 84 days.

Filling the Gap: Summer & Holiday Blood Shortages

The campaign will be carried out in two phases:

  • July 27 – September 18: Summer Vacation & Heatwave Season

  • September 21 – October 18: Chuseok Holiday Season

According to the Korean Red Cross, these are the most difficult periods for blood donations, with a dramatic decline due to school holidays and travel. Blood storage levels drop, and the demand becomes critical.

To address this, Shincheonji Church is mobilizing 10,000 church members nationwide to voluntarily participate. This is not a one-time event, but the continuation of a decade-long blood donation movement that has quietly become one of the largest and most impactful campaigns by any religious organization in Korea.

A Decade of Consistent Life-Saving Efforts

Over the past four years alone, Shincheonji Church has recorded:

  • 190,000 blood donors

  • Over 1 billion KRW (approx. 750,000 USD) in donated blood donation gift certificates

This consistent contribution has helped stabilize the country’s blood reserves year after year and has been recognized at the highest level. On June 13, Chairman Man Hee Lee of Shincheonji Church received an official commendation from the Korean Red Cross at the 2025 Blood Donor Day ceremony, acknowledging his leadership in spreading a culture of life-sharing.

More Than Numbers — A Church That Shares Life

“Just as one person’s blood can save three lives, 190,000 donors means countless lives have been given new hope,” said a church representative.
“We will continue to be a church that actively protects the lives of our fellow citizens through voluntary blood donation.”

Shincheonji’s campaign is a reminder that faith in action can bring life. In times when many people are away for summer or spending time with family during the holidays, this community of believers is stepping up to fill the gap and save lives — one drop of blood at a time.
