UN Human Rights Council Receives Petition on Minorities in South Korea

What began as a domestic legal dispute in South Korea has officially reached the global stage. CAP LC, a prominent international human rights NGO holding special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has submitted a formal written statement to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The petition voices growing international alarm over institutional discrimination, social stigma, and the erosion of due process affecting minority groups, specifically focusing on the recent treatment of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus. The Core Appeal: Decisions Must Be Based on Evidence, Not Stigma In its official submission to the UN, CAP LC shifted the focus away from internal theological controversies, choosing instead to address a more critical systemic issue: the objective standards of administrative and judicial justice. Shincheonji Taekwondo Team Wins Big Again at International Tournament

Gold, Silver, Bronze—All Members Medal in Park Chung Hee Cup

The Shincheonji Church of Jesus Taekwondo Team has once again made headlines by achieving an outstanding performance at the 2025 Park Chung Hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships, held from July 18 to 21 in Sangju, South Korea. This victory follows their full-medal performance at the Kim Un-Yong Cup earlier this month—marking two consecutive international competitions where every team member placed.

All Members Medal—Again!

In this prestigious event, which brought together over 4,200 athletes from 18 countries, 25 Shincheonji athletes participated in the recognized poomsae (form) category. The results:

  • 🥇 4 Gold Medals

  • 🥈 7 Silver Medals

  • 🥉 14 Bronze Medals

Every single competitor on the team received a medal—proving not only consistency but also excellence on the international stage.

“I didn’t have much time to train,” said gold medalist Lee Jun-wi, “but I focused fully during the time I had, and I’m thankful it led to such a good result.”

Coach Kim Deok-hoon praised the team’s effort and discipline:

“With so many elite athletes from around the world competing, this was a high-level tournament. I’m proud of our athletes for staying calm and showing their full potential. We’ll be expanding our training system to prepare for next year with even greater strength.”

Taekwondo as Cultural Diplomacy

The event took place in South Korea, the birthplace of Taekwondo. That made this tournament especially meaningful—not just for competition, but as an expression of Korean culture and global connection through sport.

The performance of the Shincheonji team impressed both domestic and international participants, serving as a powerful example of cultural diplomacy in action.

Consistent Excellence Across Tournaments

The Park Chung Hee Cup adds to a growing list of accolades:

  • 🏆 Earlier this month, at the 2025 Kim Un-Yong Cup, all 12 Shincheonji athletes medaled, with 2 first-place, 4 second-place, and 5 third-place wins.

  • 🏆 In 2024, at the World Taekwondo Hanmadang in Mungyeong, 5 out of 18 athletes from Shincheonji placed, including a gold in high jump front kick and breaking.

These achievements show that the team is more than a sports group—they are a well-trained, mission-driven unit representing the values of discipline, harmony, and perseverance.

Faith Meets Fitness

Shincheonji Church of Jesus continues to foster well-being through more than just faith. With a strong emphasis on sports, culture, and community engagement, the church is committed to nurturing individuals who are physically strong, mentally healthy, and spiritually grounded.

This taekwondo team is a living example of how faith and athleticism can come together to build a healthy and vibrant society.
