Shincheonji Thaddaeus Tribe Opens Church Doors for 20 Years, Strengthening Community in Jeonju

The Shincheonji Thaddaeus Tribe (Doma Tribe) in Jeonju has continued a long-running community engagement initiative, keeping its church facilities open to local residents for nearly two decades. Located in Palbok-dong, Jeonju, the Shincheonji Thaddaeus Tribe Jeonju Church recently hosted another “Open Sanctuary” event, transforming its lobby into a welcoming space for neighborhood interaction. Residents gathered to enjoy busking performances, exchange handwritten message cards, and share tea in a relaxed setting. According to the church, the initiative is not a one-time event but part of a 20-year tradition of lowering physical and social barriers between religious facilities and the surrounding community. Worship Is Alive Again

Partner Churches of Shincheonji’s Seoul James Tribe Experience Revival and Growth

As of the end of June 2025, seven churches in Seoul and northeast Gyeonggi Province have officially partnered with Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Seoul James Tribe (led by Overseer Shin Kyu-su). These churches now bear the signboard of “Shincheonji Church of Jesus” and are actively sharing the Word—leading to remarkable transformations in worship, church attendance, and spiritual life.

A Ministry Based on the Word: Restoring the True Function of Church

For years, Seoul James Tribe has worked closely with local churches to help revive their faith through the Bible. These partnerships aim to restore worship centered on Scripture, provide systematic Bible education, and raise spiritual leaders through a full-church recovery program.

Partner churches receive tailored support such as:

  • Word-based sermons and teaching materials

  • Bible classes for members

  • Operational know-how for church management

  • Pastor seminars and training

This “co-growth” ministry has helped struggling churches find new spiritual momentum, with results including growing congregations, youth return, and renewed worship environments.

“People Came Back Because They Wanted to Hear the Word”

A church in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu began exchanging the Word with Seoul James Tribe in October 2023 and has since become a partner church. Since then:

  • About 60 new members have joined

  • Over 100 participants attend special services like dedication and guest events

The senior pastor, formerly affiliated with a Presbyterian denomination for 30 years, shared:

“In 2018, I encountered Shincheonji’s Bible seminars. The clarity and logic of the Word covering the entire Bible deeply shocked me.”

After adopting Word-centered worship, the church atmosphere and member attitudes changed dramatically.

“Now, those who received grace naturally invite others. People come because they truly want to hear the Word. As a pastor, this is the greatest joy.”

Young People Are Returning to Church

Another partner church in the region reported that after adopting the Shincheonji name, nearly 20 new young adults began attending.

“Today’s youth want real answers from the Bible,” said one church leader.
“Shincheonji’s teaching is logical and well-organized—it speaks to them. That’s why our attendance grew.”

The sermons have restored the power and life of worship, creating a new sense of expectation and engagement.

A Growing Network Among Pastors

Beyond internal revival, these partnerships are also creating new networks among pastors. Some partner churches are now hosting regular Bible conferences, sharing the Word with nearby pastors.

“It started with partner churches,” said one organizer, “but now more pastors are coming on their own to hear the Word. Many are amazed at the depth of biblical understanding.”

“We’re Not Trying to Change Anyone—We’re Restoring Together Through the Word”

A representative from Seoul James Tribe acknowledged lingering prejudice about the name Shincheonji. But they emphasized:

“Pastors who focus on the true meaning of Scripture react very differently. We’re not here to change anyone. We want to walk together and recover faith through the Word.”

They added,

“Even with different denominations, we all believe in the same God and Jesus. This movement of unity and restoration is the change that the entire Christian world needs.”

Seoul James Tribe plans to continue supporting churches and pastors who sincerely seek to restore the true mission and function of the church, building a healthier and more spiritually vibrant community through the Bible.
