Shincheonji Seoul James Tribe Signs Historic MOU with Presbyterian General Assembly

In a landmark moment for interchurch cooperation, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, Seoul James Tribe (led by Tribe Leader Yoo Young-bin) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea. The agreement was finalized at the Heavenly Culture Promotion Hall of Shincheonji Seoul Church in Nowon District.

This marks the second official MOU at a denominational level, moving beyond individual church partnerships to broader cooperation between Shincheonji and an established Christian denomination.


A Step Toward Unity in the Word

The partnership is centered on expanding biblical exchanges and strengthening mutual cooperation, reaffirming the belief that God’s people can come together through Scripture.

Tribe Leader Yoo Young-bin reflected on the significance of the moment:

“At the time of the First Coming, God’s Word was one, yet people’s own thoughts created divisions. Ultimately, unity came through the words of Jesus. Today’s agreement is a meaningful opportunity for God’s people to become one again in the Word.”

 

Voices of Faith and Reconciliation

The General Assembly’s presiding leader, who had participated in Shincheonji’s large-scale Bible seminar earlier this year, shared his perspective:

“There is a time for everything, as Ecclesiastes 3 says. Human plans have limits, but when God allows it, His work is fulfilled. Though there was opposition, walking the path of faith together has allowed us to experience spiritual grace and recognize the truth.”

The pastor who arranged the MOU, Rev. Yoo Young-joo of Dongdaemun Church, emphasized perseverance:

“Now that we have become one in God, we will move forward with the determination to fulfill His will, no matter the challenges. Through pastors, we hope to see many more people come closer to God.”

 

Significance for Korean Christianity

This agreement between Shincheonji and the Presbyterian General Assembly signals a new chapter in Korean Christianity. It demonstrates that dialogue and cooperation based on the Bible can overcome division and open the way to shared understanding.

By building trust and sharing the Word, Shincheonji and its partner denomination are paving the way for more pastors, congregations, and denominations to engage in open, Scripture-based dialogue—fostering reconciliation within the wider Christian community.
