UN Human Rights Council Receives Petition on Minorities in South Korea

What began as a domestic legal dispute in South Korea has officially reached the global stage. CAP LC, a prominent international human rights NGO holding special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has submitted a formal written statement to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The petition voices growing international alarm over institutional discrimination, social stigma, and the erosion of due process affecting minority groups, specifically focusing on the recent treatment of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus. The Core Appeal: Decisions Must Be Based on Evidence, Not Stigma In its official submission to the UN, CAP LC shifted the focus away from internal theological controversies, choosing instead to address a more critical systemic issue: the objective standards of administrative and judicial justice. The international NGO expressed deep concern that unverified negative perceptions originating in South Korea are being exported g...

We Are One Youth Volunteers in Seoul–Gyeonggi East Join Summer Blood Drive, 170 Donations in Two Weeks

In the middle of South Korea’s peak summer vacation season—when blood supply shortages often worsen—members of the We Are One Youth Volunteer Group’s Seoul–Gyeonggi East Regional Association have stepped forward to save lives.

From July 27 to the second week of August, more than 170 people participated in the 2025 We Are Red blood donation campaign, helping to address seasonal shortages caused by heatwaves and holiday travel. The campaign ran simultaneously at nine centers, including Junggye, Nohae-ro, Suyu, Uijeongbu, Guri, and Hoegi.

Donors Share Their Motivation

Participants expressed strong commitment to ongoing blood donation:

  • Lee Seong-ho (34, Dongdaemun-gu): “After learning about the limit on whole blood donations, I started donating plasma and platelets as well.”

  • Kim Guk-jong (35, Guri): “Knowing I can help save lives made me act right away. I plan to keep participating regularly.”

Addressing Korea’s Blood Supply Gap

According to Im Seong-gu, Team Leader of Blood Donation Development at the Seoul Eastern Blood Center, South Korea needs 3.5 million donors annually for a stable blood supply, but currently has only 2.9 million.

“With the youth population shrinking and demand for blood increasing, daily targets are difficult to meet,” he explained. “Our center’s daily goal is 800–900 donors, but we’re averaging about 80% of that. We Are One’s active participation is a great help.”

Nationwide Goal: 10,000 Donors by October

The We Are Red campaign will continue until October 18, targeting 10,000 donors nationwide. By focusing efforts during the summer and Chuseok holiday periods, the campaign aims to maintain stable blood reserves throughout the year.

Beyond blood donation, We Are One—affiliated with Shincheonji Church of Jesus—carries out diverse volunteer activities, including environmental cleanups, disaster relief, and community service, promoting the values of life, care, and peace.
