Bridging the Generational Gap: Shincheonji Seodaemun Church Restores Family and Community Connections

In an increasingly fast-paced digital world, generational gaps and declining family satisfaction have become significant social challenges in South Korea. According to Statistics Korea’s 2024 Social Survey, the percentage of citizens who report feeling satisfied with their family relationships dropped to 63.5% (a 1.0% decrease from two years prior). Crucially, the data revealed a steep perceptual divide: while 80.8% of those under 20 felt satisfied, only 55.0% of seniors aged 60 and over echoed that sentiment. To address this deepening emotional isolation, the Seodaemun Church of the Simon Tribe of Shincheonji launched a structured "Intergenerational Buddy Program" during the Month of Families, creating a unique space for open dialogue, mutual respect, and emotional healing. Creating Three Axis of Generational Connection Rather than hosting a typical one-way event, the Seodaemun Church intentionally paired its six internal departments into three distinct, cross-generational ...

“Life Train” Seminar Brings Generations Together at Shincheonji Yeongdeungpo Church

On October 18, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Bartholomew Tribe, Yeongdeungpo Church) held a unique life-reflection event titled “The Life Train” at its Seoul branch.

The seminar invited participants of all ages — from those in their 20s to their 70s — to look back on their life journey, rediscover personal values, and gain wisdom on setting the right direction for the future.

Reflecting on Life’s Journey

The event began with a guided introduction from the church’s public-relations team and continued with an insightful lecture led by Instructor Seo Gyu-min.
Seo shared:

“A wise person can gain understanding even from a raindrop falling from a roof. Let us think together about where our train of life should stop and when we should move forward without hesitation.”

He emphasized that true direction in life begins with understanding the Creator who made humanity, saying,

“To live wisely, we must know our Creator and seek wisdom from Him. I hope this time helps you make the right choices in your journey.”

One attendee, Trevor Scholtz (34, Australia), commented:

“I was nervous at first, but the warm welcome from everyone made me feel comfortable. I’ve been struggling to find direction in my life, but through this lecture, I found clues on where to start.”

Community, Creativity, and Connection

In addition to the main lecture, the event featured hands-on experience booths, such as portrait sketching, sock-yarn crafts, and lucky-draw activities, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for all generations.

Performances by a children’s orchestra, choir, dance team, traditional percussion troupe, and a father’s band called “Hus Band” added color and joy to the day.

Participant Im Ok-nyeo (68, Dorim-dong) said,

“I joined because I wanted to learn more about the Bible. I enjoyed the various booth activities, and what touched me most was the message to value myself above all else.”

A Church that Grows with Its Community

The Shincheonji Yeongdeungpo Church plans to continue hosting more interactive and community-friendly programs, offering citizens meaningful opportunities to learn, reflect, and share.

Through these creative initiatives, Shincheonji Church of Jesus continues to foster connection, joy, and spiritual growth within local communities.
