Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu Branch Hosts Fire Prevention Campaign at Paldal Market for Chuseok

In Korea, Chuseok (추석) is one of the most important holidays, a time when families travel, gather at ancestral graves, and visit traditional markets to prepare food for the season. With so many people moving and markets becoming busier than usual, safety—especially fire prevention—becomes essential.

To promote a safer holiday, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (SCJVG) Daegu Branch, led by Branch Director Kim Su-jin, organized a Chuseok Fire Prevention Campaign on October 1 at Paldal Market.

Hands-On Fire Safety Experience

The campaign featured interactive booths where citizens could learn through experience:

  • 🔥 A “Find the Cause of Fire” quiz to raise awareness about common fire hazards in daily life.

  • 🧯 Fire extinguisher training, allowing participants to directly hold and use extinguishers, learning correct techniques.

One citizen commented,

“I hadn’t thought much about fire prevention before the holiday, but this helped a lot. Since fires in markets or mountains can spread quickly, I’ll make sure to check at home and in my shop.”

Reaching Shops and Residents with Safety Tips

After the event, volunteers split into teams and visited around 150 stores in Paldal Market, distributing fire prevention leaflets and guiding merchants on safety practices such as:

  • Avoiding overloaded outlets.

  • Unplugging unused appliances.

  • Knowing evacuation routes in crowded facilities.

  • Preventing open flames or burning near forests during ancestral visits.

Local merchants expressed gratitude, with one shop owner saying,

“They came last year too, and I’m thankful they continue to care about our safety.”

Building a Culture of Prevention

Director Kim Su-jin emphasized,

“Even a small act of carelessness can cause a fire. Prevention is the most important step, and we will continue working with our community to spread a culture of safety.”

The Spirit of Chuseok and Community Safety

While Chuseok is known as a holiday of abundance and sharing, it also highlights the importance of protecting our families, neighbors, and markets. The Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Daegu Branch has shown that holiday goodwill is not only about giving gifts but also about ensuring peace of mind through safety education.

✨ By combining the spirit of Chuseok with practical safety measures, Shincheonji volunteers are helping create a safer and warmer holiday for everyone.
