Shincheonji Volunteers in Gyeongju Join Cleanup Ahead of APEC

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu–Gyeongbuk Union (President: Kim Su-jin) carried out a large-scale environmental cleanup at Hwangseong Park in Gyeongju on October 22, joining the city’s “APEC Volunteer Day: Welcoming Our Guests” campaign.

This event, hosted by the Gyeongju Volunteer Center, was organized to prepare the city for the upcoming APEC Summit, welcoming international leaders and visitors to a clean and vibrant Gyeongju.

50 Volunteers, 200 Liters of Waste Collected

Despite rainy weather, about 50 volunteers from the Daegu–Gyeongbuk Union participated in the cleanup, collecting roughly 200 liters of trash throughout Hwangseong Park and its surrounding areas — including plastic waste, cigarette butts, and debris along walkways, gardens, and roadsides.

The volunteers began their work near Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium, systematically covering zones up to the park’s northern section. Their efforts contributed to improving the city’s cleanliness and visual appeal in time for the global event.

One volunteer shared,

“We wanted to present a clean and welcoming city to the international guests visiting for APEC. We hope everyone who visits Gyeongju will leave with meaningful memories.”

Strengthening Community Pride Ahead of a Global Event

A representative from the Gyeongju Volunteer Center expressed gratitude, saying,

“We’re thankful for everyone who volunteered despite the weather. Their dedication helps create a safe and pleasant city environment.”

Union President Kim Su-jin added,

“It was an honor to serve ahead of such an important international event. We will continue working with local residents to promote community well-being and volunteerism.”

Beyond this campaign, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu–Gyeongbuk Union continues to spread positive impact across the region — from forest fire recovery in Andong to river cleanups in Cheongdo and support for local welfare facilities.
