We Are One Gwacheon Branch Holds Blood Donation Campaign During Chuseok Holiday

On September 28, the We Are One Youth Volunteer Group (Gwacheon Branch, Seoul–Gyeonggi South Regional Association) organized a blood donation campaign at the Gwacheon Government Complex Citizens’ Plaza.

The event took place during Chuseok, Korea’s traditional autumn harvest festival often compared to Thanksgiving. Chuseok is one of the most important holidays in Korea, when families travel to their hometowns to share food, honor ancestors, and spend time together. However, because of the long holiday period, blood donations typically decrease nationwide. To address this seasonal shortage, We Are One held a special campaign to stabilize the blood supply and spread the culture of life-sharing.

Strong Participation Despite the Holiday

Two mobile blood buses were stationed at the venue, enabling smooth participation. A total of 92 people registered, and 76 successfully donated blood.

To encourage more involvement, the Gwacheon branch prepared interactive programs on-site. Volunteers held a small raffle event, giving away tumblers, and selected winners among donors to receive chicken gift coupons.

The campaign also aligned with Gwacheon City’s blood donation incentive policy, which provides each donor with a 10,000 KRW local currency voucher when donating through a local blood bus. This practical benefit was introduced to participants, further motivating engagement.

Voices of Dedication

One participant, Ms. Lee Ji-eun, shared:

“Because of being underweight, I failed to donate blood several times over the past two years. For this campaign, I made an effort to exercise and maintain my health. I’m very glad to finally contribute to such a meaningful cause.”

A We Are One Gwacheon representative added:

“Blood supply drops sharply during national holidays. We hope this campaign helps alleviate the shortage, even in a small way. Moving forward, we will continue to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and create an environment where anyone can participate comfortably.”

Nationwide Campaign

This effort is part of the 2025 ‘We Are Red’ Nationwide Blood Donation Campaign, running from July 27 to October 18. Within just over a month of its launch, 7,500 people across Korea have already participated, solidifying We Are One’s reputation as one of the largest youth-led blood donation movements in the country.
