Shincheonji Volunteer Group Launches Nationwide Fire Prevention Campaign Amid High-Risk Season

National Alert: Safeguarding Forests During the Special Countermeasure Period

As the "Large-Scale Forest Fire Special Countermeasure Period" (March 14 – April 19) begins in South Korea, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has taken proactive steps to protect the nation's precious silver forests and mountain ranges. With dry weather and strong winds increasing the risk of fire, various branches of the volunteer group—including Gwangyang, Ulsan, and Gangwon—organized impactful community campaigns on March 14 to emphasize that "prevention is the best cure."

Gwangyang: Community Engagement at Traditional Markets

In Gwangyang, a region recently affected by forest fires, the Gwangyang Branch held a campaign at the Okgok 5-Day Market and Seocheon Athletic Park.

  • Educational Outreach: Volunteers distributed eco-friendly shopping bags and provided guidelines on preventing illegal waste burning.

  • Visual Awareness: A photo exhibition showcasing the devastating aftermath of past fires drew significant attention from locals, serving as a solemn reminder of the importance of vigilance.

  • Plogging Activities: In collaboration with the "One Step" hiking club, volunteers cleared flammable materials and litter along the Seosan Eoul-gil trail.

Ulsan: Protecting the "Yeongnam Alps"

The Ulsan Branch focused its efforts on Ganwol Mountain, a major peak in the "Yeongnam Alps."

  • Interactive Quizzes: To engage hikers, volunteers hosted "Wise Fire Prevention Life" quizzes, turning education into an interactive experience.

  • Smart Safety: They promoted the "Smart Forest Disaster" app via QR codes on water bottles, ensuring that visitors are equipped with digital tools for emergency reporting.

Gangwon: A Promise to Nature in Fire-Prone Regions

The Gangwon Regional Federation targeted the Muring Valley in Donghae and Wolhwa Street in Gangneung—areas with a history of significant wildfire damage.

  • Symbolic Pledges: The "Promise to Nature" corner allowed citizens of all ages, including foreign tourists, to write down personal commitments to forest protection.

  • Public Safety Support: Local fire monitors expressed gratitude, noting that such volunteer-led awareness campaigns significantly bolster the efforts of limited official personnel.

"Nature is Green": A Legacy for Future Generations

These activities are part of Shincheonji Volunteer Group's "Nature is Green" (자연아 푸르자) initiative. This ongoing environmental movement focuses on wetland preservation, disaster recovery, and urban purification to ensure a healthy planet for the next
generation.

By fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to serve as a vital pillar in regional disaster prevention and community support.
